About the Artist

Maria's artwork is mainly based on the female figure. Her paintings are far away from being classic nudes but they are instead a symbolic representation of the feminine power.

Inspired by her passion for photography and her perception of nature, the outcome is an exploration of the feminine in a dream-like manner, with hair playing an important role in the composition and background of the painting.

Her fascination for bright, bold and pure colours is indeed reflected in her work, with a tendency for no more than two or three hues together, giving the painting an overall sense of colour balance an harmony.

Her work always has a spiritual connotation...eyes closed as in a meditative state, capturing that peaceful moment.

Always approaching the canvas directly and without any preceding sketches or studies, she relies solely on her instinct and imagination to find the creative process closer to her emotions in that particular instant.

Paintings has been her means to explore her feelings and express her search for sense and meaning, wishing to touch the emotional side of the viewer and to awaken feelings of sensuality, calm and peace.

She is currently working on a serie of paintings called 'Inspiration from the Sea' where an influence from her Mediterranean roots can be found.

Her work is mainly exhibited around the U.K and is sold through several retail companies in Dorset.
